It’s crucial that swimming pools are properly prepared for plastering, as you need a clean and smooth foundation to build upon as a base. Our team of professionals take every precaution to make sure we create a clean surface for plastering. Our pool preparation process comes down to just a few simple steps:
- First, we cut off all power to the pool. This includes all pool equipment, lights and water features, and is done as a safety precaution.
- Once all of the power has been turned off, we completely drain the pool of water. We need access to the pool’s surface, and that means no water can be in the way!
- Next, (if tile is remaining) our crew prepares a flush surface by undercutting below the water level line of tile and around steps and any other pool features.
- A swimming pool acid wash is used to remove algae buildup and other grime. This leaves the remaining surface as clean as possible, so that no underlying muck remains before the new plaster is applied. We want a clean slate to build upon.
- Picking/chipping of the surface is the next step, once the surface has been cleaned. We also use a stripping method to remove old plaster down to the gunite.
- Finally, we waterblast the swimming pool, removing any excess loose plaster or other debris.
After these steps, the pool’s surface is fully prepared and ready for the plastering process to begin! This means that you’re one step closer to a freshly plastered, totally renovated swimming pool.
