When do you need pool plastering?
The first plastering usually takes place as part of pool finishing of a new pool. The other two occasions when you may plaster are when the original plaster wears out and when you want to facelift the pool.
Re-plastering for structural reasons
The pool plaster is a waterproof layer between the pool water and the shell of the pool. This shell is usually made from Shotcrete or Gunite with some older pools even featuring poured concrete or cinder blocks – all of which are porous. The pool plaster protects this porous layer from water that may leek from within the pool. It protects the cement beneath and the steel bars used for reinforcement from the harmful effects of water. Plaster is therefore a very important layer in the structure of the pool.
You should check your pool regularly to see if the plaster is wearing out. So, how do you tell that the plaster is wearing out? Look around the walls of the pool for any bare spots. If you can see the Gunite beneath, the plaster is probably worn out. Smaller patches can be sealed using EZ Patch. However, if the spots are spread over a large area, it may be wiser to call Coronado’s Pool Plasters to take a look and help you made a re-plastering decision.
Re-plastering for aesthetic reasons
Aesthetics is all about looks. If you’re looking into your pool and aren’t impressed, maybe you need to improve the aesthetics. The chemicals introduced into the pool by various agents can usually cause strains. Acid washing is one way of removing stains. However, even acid washing won’t give perfect results especially for stains caused by iron and copper reactions. In such situations, finding and addressing the root cause of the problem will be important. A full re-plaster will always help to facelift the pool restoring its sparkle both in sunlight and in the night when artificial lights are on.
